Cultural sightseeings

In Dobbiaco are to be found some of the most artistic and cultural places of the whole Pusteria Valley. The parish church consecrate to St. John the Baptist and St. Sebastian, is the best example of baroque in the valley. Built between the 1764 and 1774, in the place of a pre-existent romanic building (9th. century a.D.), today has a 76 meter high bell tower.

The cult places are a very important meanings for the people of Dobbiaco. The church of St. Mary (ca. 1300 a.D.) and the church of St. Nicholas patron of the flooding (14th. century a.D.) testify the centuried relationship that the inhabitants have with the christian religion.

At last, in Dobbiaco can be visited the most ancient chapel of the valley. The little church of St. Peter "am Kofl", a toponim that goes back to the early christianisation of the valley, was probably built in the 8th. century a.D., in place of an important celtic cult place connected with rituals of the winter solstice.
